Monsoon is a designer retail company that sells a assortment of women’s clothing, children’s wear, fragrances, shoes and home appliances.

Early life of the Monsoon Fashion Brand

  • The brand was created in 1972 by Peter Simon.
  • The brand concentrated on clothes with ethnic origins, which came from India and the far East.
  • The first Monsoon store was opened in May 1973, in Beauchamp Place, Knightsbridge, London.


  • After the success of the store,in 1984 Peter Simon then launched the first Accessorize store, which had the High Street concept.
  • In 198, the second Accessorize store opened, and thereafter multiple stores were open.
  • The Monsoon brand then expanded from its London base and launches in first international store.
  • In year the 2000, the formed a joint venture with Charming shoppes to launch 20 shops in U.S.
  •  At the end of year 2000,there were 135 Uk stores and 27 overseas.


  • The clothing lines are mainly inspired by different cultures, whether it is India or Afghanistan, the clothes refers to the world’s different countries.

Present Day

  • Today the company is still owned by the founder and Chairman Peter Simon.
  • The other key members of the brand are John Spooner, who is the Executive Chairman and Andrew May, the Financial Director.
  • The company operates under three retail store concepts, which are the Monsoon shop, Accessorize store and the Flagship store.
  • Monsoon Children and Monsoon Fusion were later added to the family.
  • The Bridal collection was extended and launched online.
  • Today there are over 400 stores in the United Kingdom and over 1400 and counting throughout the world.
  • The group has been given The Queen’s Award in Enterprise for International Trade.
