Marc Jacobs is one of the most established and highly accredited Designers of our time, and rightfully so.

Early Life of Marc Jacobs

  • Marc Jacobs was born into a Jewish family, on the 9 April 1963.
  • He attended the High School of Art and design and went on to study at Parsons School of design.
  • While studying at Parsons he went on to receive many awards, the most prestigious being from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the Perry Ellis gold Award.


  • In the 1980’s, Marc Jacobs Formed his own company, with his business partner Robert Duffy called Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc.
  • In 1986 he designed his first collection for Reuben Thomas under the label “Sketchbook”.
  • After this experience, Marc went on to design his first collection under his own label Marc Jacobs.
  • In 1987 he won the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Perry Ellis Award for “New Fashion Talent”, which is the highest symbol of admiration from fashion industry.
  • In 1988 Jacobs, along with Robert Duffy joined the women’s design unit for Perry Ellis as president and vice president, after the death of the founder, Perry Ellis.
  • In 1992, Marc Jacobs received another award from the Council of Fashion Designers America for Women’s Designer of the Year Award.
  • In the same year Jacobs designed another collection, which was titled to be grunge worthy and lead him being fired from Perry Ellis.
  • In 1993 Marc and Robert decided to start their own licensing and design company, Marc Jacobs International Company, L.P.
  • In 1994, Marc Jacobs designed his first full menswear collection.
  • In 1997, he was selected as Louis Vuitton’s creative director, while he was there, he designed the companies’ first ready-to-wear collection.
  • In 2001, Marc launched his secondary line called Marc by Marc Jacobs.
  • In 2006, he then expanded his brand by releasing a new line of body-splash fragrances, which were distributed by Coty.
  • In 2013, Marc was named the creative director for Diet Coke.
  • In the same year, it was announced that Marc Jacobs will leave Louis Vuitton to focus on his brand.
  • In 2014, he decided to end his secondary clothing line, Marc by Marc Jacobs to focus on his first line Marc Jacobs.



  • Marc uses his name as his trademark, Marc Jacobs.
  • He is best known for his style of clothing, which is describes as a mash up of grunge, yet couture clothing.
