Miuccia Prada

  • Miuccia Prada is the founder of the fashion house Prada that started out producing high quality leather products for men and women in Milan and now has over 300 stores worldwide due to its expanded fashion line.  It is one of the oldest fashion houses in Europe.


Early life and education

  • Miuccia Prada was born in Milan on 10 May 1949.
  • She studied at the University of Milan where she got a doctorate degree in political sciences.
  • When she was 24 she decided to study the art of mime, (using the body to act out a story without speech) in Milan’s Piccolo Theatro.
  • Prada’s first store opened in Milan in 1983.



  • Miuccia is best known for her popular black lightweight backpacks.
  • She introduced her secondary affordable line called Miu Miu, based on her own wardrobe, in 1992.
  • Miuccia was awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of American International Award in 1993.
  • In 2005 she was on the list of the Top 20 most influential people of the 20th Century in Times magazine.
