The Durban July thrills its visitors – “Keepin’ it Posh? Oh my Gosh!”

Durban July Fashion Fun

This weekend was marked by “Africa’s greatest horseracing event” the 2013 Vodacom Durban July. Where 50,000 people in their poshest outfits took to the Greyville Racecourse in Durban to place their bets and see the best purebreds compete for the R3.5 million reward.

Even though the Vodacom Durban July had a drizzly build up the weekend’s race still began without delay. The day began with sixty-seven seconds of silence in prays and thoughts for Madiba followed by a performance of the national anthem by Bongani Thembe.S’manga Khumalo who rode Heavy Metal made history this year as the first black jockey to gain victory at the esteemed Vodacom Durban July. Khumalo’s dashing victory has definitely lit up the sporting front, but what would the Vodacom Durban July be without the drop dead gorgeous fashion?

Fashion Glamor

With the theme as stylish as, “Posh? Oh My Gosh!” Fashionistas were challenged to think simplistically and elegantly. It is here that 2nd Take drew on inspiration from classic icons such as Vera Wang, the original Posh spice, Victoria Beckham, and timeless Audrey Hepburn. Quite a few men and women pared their outfits with clean lines of understated elegance. Black, whites and layers of lace made a statement, with simple architectural designs. Casey Jean’s winning design in the “Durban July Fashion Challenge” definitely defined the word “POSH”  Where others may have missed the Posh and went straight for the Oh my Gosh! (worst dressed)

The 2013 Vodacom Durban July made history and brought back a touch of the classic in their flair this year. But with all of this minimalism, we couldn’t forget the most dearest horserace accessory of all, your designer hat! This year’s fashion definitely made a statement and kept it sophisticated. For a timeless event like the Vodacom Durban July we say, “Keep it modest and chic but never forget your own individual look”
