Designer Take – Diane von Furstenberg

Diane von Furstenberg - Fashion Designer - 2nd Take

Not your average designer

Diane von Furstenberg is the original designer of the classic wrap dress. Her design was so influential on fashion and culture that it was honoured with an induction into the display of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The breakthrough in New York

It all started in the seventies, when a young Diane came to New York City with her self designed clothes. With her knitted jersey dress, she gave the women’s fashion world a whole new outlook. The appeal of her clothing ensured that in no time at all she was on the cover of Newsweek and The Wall Street Journal.

More about Diane

Diane von Furstenberg is much more than a one trick pony! She has an expanded product line which includes a cosmetic line, a fragrance (Tatiana) and an online store, dvf.com. She also launched a jewellery line, that she created together with H. Stern.

Her many lives have included a stint as a German Princess, big fish in the pond at the swinging Studio 54 and, since 2006, president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. With a career still going strong after almost 40 years, von Furstenberg is definitely a name that will live on in fashion forever.
