Escada is a global luxury fashion group, specializing in women’s designer wear.

 

Career

  • Escada was established in 1976 by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley in Munich Germany.
  • The brand quickly became popular, with it’s distinctive designs, use of colour, patterns and embellishments.
  • In 1980, the brand launched a second, more affordable line, called Laurel.
  • In 1982, the Escada brand became known internationally when it entered into the US market.
  • In 1989, Escada continued to grow, opening stores in USA, Asia, Great Britain, Japan, Spain, France, Italy and Canada
  • Following the momentum of the expansion the brand then launched its first fragrance in 1990.
  • In 1992, sadly Co-Founder and Chief Designer of Escada, Maragaretha Ley passed away.
  • In 1994, Brian Rennie was appointed as Design Director of the brand.
  • In the same year Escada SPORT was introduced to the public.
  • In 1998, the brand launched it eyewear collection.
  • Two year later, an accessories range was also introduced
  • In 2006, Wolfgang Ley announced his retirement, and appointed Frank Rheinboldt as CEO.
  • Damiano Biella was also appointed as creative director.
  • Frank Rheinboldt only lasted for a year as head of the brand.
  • The following year, Jean-Marc Loubier (2007) was announced as new CEO, but he too would last for only a year, followed by Dr Bruno Salzer (2008).
  • In 2009, billionaire Lakshmi Mittal purchased the Escada business, and gave it to his daughter, Megha Mittal, who became Chairman of the brand.
  • In 2011, the brand introduced its Escada home range.
  • The following year, they also launched their watches and jewellry collection.
  • In 2014, Bruno Salzer stepped down as CEO.

 

Trademark

The Escada brand is best known for it’s distinct designs, -that includes its unique combinations of colours, patterns and embroidery and intricate knitted designs.

 

Present Day

  • Today Esacada has a presence in over 60 different countries.
  • The brand itself is one of biggest and most recognizable brands in the fashion industry up to date.
