Thakoon Panichgul, originally from Thailand, is a celebrated American fashion designer. Panichgul is well known for his politeness, as well as for his designs. This Thai-born Designer exclusively creates fashion for women.

Early life of Thakoon Panichgul

  • Thakoon Panichgul was born in 1974, in the Chiang Rai Province in Thailand.
  • Thakoon and his family moved o the US when he was 11 years old.
  • The Fashion interest was kindled by his mother and grandmother, who both were seamstresses.
  • From early on Thakoon enjoyed fashion magazines, especially British, American and Paris Vogue.
  • In 1997 Panichgul graduated from the Boston University, with a Business Degree. His mother wanted him to become a businessman. However, despite his mother’s wishes, he moved to New York, to pursue a career as fashion writer.

Career

  • Despite no formal studies in Fashion Design, Thakoon established himself as a fashion writer. In New York, he first wrote for J. Crew and later moved on to work for four years, for Harper Bazaar, as their feature editor.
  • His exposure to Fashion at Harper Bazaar, influenced him to pursue a career as fashion designer.
  • In 2001, Panichgul enrolled at the Parsons School of Design, to attain a formal education in fashion design, where he graduated in 2003.
  • He presented a 14 piece clothing collection for women, in 2004, which was well received and sold exclusively at Net-A-Porter.
  • In this year, he also launched his own brand, which was immediately championed by the Fashion press.
  • His first collections were admired by top stylists, editors and celebrities, such as the likes of Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker and Demi Moore.
  • In 2006, Panichgul was honoured with the CFDA/ Vogue fashion Fund award, for women’s wear.
  • In 2008, Michelle Obama wore one of Panichgul’s exquisite floral print dresses when her husband, Barack Obama, accepted the Democratic nomination for president.

Present

  • Thakoon Panichgul collaborated with Lancome and Gucci Westman to create a lipstick line – Pixel Pink. The lipstick line was a limited edition for Panichgul’s models.
  • Thakoon Panichgul gained more prominence, when he presented an exclusive clothing line for the Target store, at the end of 2008.
  • In 2009, Panichgul was nominated for the Swarovski Award. Within the same year he was appointed as creative director of the Japanese jewellery brand Tasaki.
  • Also in 2009, he became one of the finalists at the Swiss Textile Award.
  • In February 2010, he launched two high-class clothing line at the Aloha Rag store in New York.
  • Thakoon presented a chic clothing line at the 2013 autumn/winter fashion shows. The designs encorporated embroidered dragonflies on neoprene, scrambled print and lace.
  • Early in 2016, Panichgul thumbed a regular spot at the New York Fashion Week and the Hong Kong-based family investment firm, Bright Fame Fashion, partnered with Panchigul.
  • The Corner, Neiman Marcus, YOOX.COM, Barneys New York, Farfetch, Nordstrom and Intermix are some of the online stores where the Thakoon brand is available for purchase.
