  • Salvatore Ferragamo Italia S.p.A. is an Italian luxury goods company, trading in shoes, leather goods, and ready-to-wear collections for men and women.

 

 

Early Life and Education

  •  Salvatore Ferragamo, born in 1898 in Bonito, Italy, was an Italian shoe designer.
  •  After making his first pair of shoes at the age of nine, for his sisters to wear at their confirmation, a young Salvatore decided that  he had found his calling.
  • He studied shoemaking in Naples for a year and after that opened a small store based in his parent’s home.
  • Later he emigrated to Boston, where one of his brothers worked in a cowboy boot factory.
  • Salvatore decided toopen a shop for shoe-repair as well as making made-to-measure shoes, which soon became popular amongst celebrities.
  • Driven by the desire to create a more comfortable shoe Ferragamo decided to study anatomy at the  University California.
  • After working with many Hollywood stars in the 1920s, he returned to Italy and founded his company, specialising inunique handmade footwear.
  • Ferragamo sadly passed away in 1960 but his name has lived on as a successfully trading, international company, selling luxury goods like shoes, bags, eyewear, silk accessories, watches, perfumes and a ready-to-wear clothing the Ferragamo company.
  • Daughter Fiamma Ferragamo is said to have been the most influential compass in the business after her father’s death.
  • She is credited with the 1978 design of the “Vara pumps” that have become a recognisable trademark product for the brand.

 

Trademark

  •  Along with the famous “Vara pump“,other especially famous creations for the brand include shoes like the wedge heel and cage heel.

 

 

Present Day

  • Today the company is currently owned and run by the Ferragamo family.
  • Since October 2006 Michele Norsa has served as managing and general director.
  • Recently, the company launched “My Ferragamo”, which is a new addition to the original brand. It is more suited for the younger generation
