Weekends with 2nd Take

by Annika Fischer

A slightly different take on weekends…

We love weekends…and this one is extra special. A long weekend is coming up and it promises to be filled with peaceful vibes, National Pride and traditional braais. First up: you can enjoy a weekend with colourful hippies at the Earthdance festival. Then on Monday (a public holiday) you can spoil yourself with friends and family at a lekker braai to celebrate Heritage Day.

This year you should definitely not miss out on the Earthdance weekend – Friday 21 until Sunday 23 September. It’s the time of the year where we Cape Tonians come together and dance to electro music, celebrating global peace and meeting our Mother Gaia. Since 1997 the world has come together for the Prayer for Peace in over 80 countries. This year especially, will be an electrifying event for Cape Town because we have been chosen by Earthdance International as the Hub Event for 2012. Our duty is to show the rest of the world how we earth-loving Cape Tonians can dance and celebrate in the name of peace.

Every year Earthdance focuses on a specific topic the world should be taking note of, and this year’s theme is “Year of the Woman”. Earthdance aims to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women.

As always we can expect the highlight of the weekend – the breath taking, inspiring and very Zen – Prayer of Peace performance. At 1am on Sunday, 23/9 the Prayer of Peace will take place simultaneously at Earthdance events around the world.

An array of amazing local DJs and live music performers will bring you non-stop music on the various stages.  You will also find a variety of delicious food stalls as well as festival-fashionable clothing stands.

For more information visit Earth Dance Cape Town here. We found some cute dresses on our online shop to help you get sorted for your festival style.

After enjoying the global peace experience at Earthdance, make sure you celebrate Heritage day and National Braai day the only way us South Africans know how – a good old-fashioned braai.
