Celebrities sparkle at the Oscars

Sunday the 24th of  February saw the most anticipated event of the celebrity calendar, the 85th Academy Awards Ceremony, better known as the Oscars, take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Statuettes were handed out to some (very) deserving film industry candidates, but with all the exciting designer outfits that graced the runway that is the red carpet this year, it’s a shame that trophies aren’t awarded to the best dressed celebrities as well!

South Africa’s own golden girl, Charlize Theron, arrived at the Oscars looking chic in a white Dior peplum gown- white being a popular colour choice amongst the celebs this year. She also seemed to be sporting a new short hair style, which proved that one doesn’t need long locks to pull off a glamorous look!

Another celebrity who opted for a pale hue was actress Amanda Seyfried, who wore a halter-neck dress by designer Alexander McQueen. This sparkly number, paired with her elegant up-do, puts Seyfried in the running for awarded the title of ‘Best Dressed” at the Oscars for 2013.

Australian actress, Naomi Watts, illuminated the red carpet in a dazzling silver one-sleeved dress from designer Armani’s Privé collection. Despite losing out on the Oscar, this outfit, along with her blonde hair and alabaster skin, really made her a winner on the red-carpet runway.

Adding some bold colour to the ceremony was actress Olivia Munn, who wore a sleeveless gold-embroidered red gown by design house Marchesa. Rumour has it that she had to be sewn into this red-hot number, but with a dress this fabulous, who would ever want to take it off?

Even though the Oscars is an event celebrating and rewarding excellence in the film industry, it is nevertheless a ceremony which gives designers an  opportunity to showcase their latest work with the whole world as an audience. And even though these stylish ladies may not have walked away with a statuette, their fashion choices still make them winners in our books!
